Colour-adapting foundations, full-coverage BB creams, and skin-smoothing primers — base makeup designed to even skin tone and last all day without caking or settling into fine lines.
Foundation or BB cream?
The difference is coverage and intent. Foundation is built to even skin tone with buildable, often higher coverage. BB cream is lighter, usually includes skincare-style hydration, and is meant for a more natural finish on days when you want evenness rather than transformation.
If you want your skin to look like skin, start with BB cream. If you want to cover redness or marked unevenness, start with foundation.
Matching shade without a counter
Test along the jawline, not the back of your hand — hand skin is a different tone from your face. Check it in daylight, and let it sit ten minutes before judging: most bases oxidize slightly and settle a shade deeper.
Colour-adapting formulas are useful here. Our colour-adapting soft matte foundation adjusts toward your tone on contact, which removes much of the guesswork when buying online.
Caking is almost always too much product applied at once. Build in thin layers; two sheer passes look better than one heavy one.
Settling into fine lines means skin underneath is dehydrated. A hydrating serum and moisturizer beforehand fixes this more reliably than changing foundation.
Sliding off by midday is usually skipped primer, or moisturizer that had not absorbed before you applied base. Give moisturizer five minutes.
Grey or ashy means the undertone is wrong, not the depth. Look for warmer or cooler in the same shade range.
Prep matters more than product
Base makeup only looks as good as the skin under it. Cleanse, hydrate, let everything absorb, then apply. If your skin is flaking, no foundation will sit smoothly — sort the dryness first with a skincare routine and gentle cleanser.
What is the difference between BB cream and foundation?
BB cream is lighter, more hydrating, and gives a natural finish. Foundation offers higher, more buildable coverage for evening out tone and covering redness.
How do I choose a foundation shade online?
Match along the jawline in daylight and wait ten minutes, since most formulas oxidize slightly. Colour-adapting foundations reduce the risk considerably when you cannot swatch in person.
Why does my foundation settle into fine lines?
Dehydrated skin underneath, or too much product. Hydrate properly, let it absorb, and apply in thin layers.
Do I need primer?
Not always. Primer helps if you have visible texture, large-looking pores, or base that slides off by midday. On well-hydrated skin it is optional.
Is BB cream good for oily skin?
Choose an oil-control matte formula. Standard BB creams often have a dewy finish that reads as extra shine on oily skin by the afternoon.
